+-------------------------+
Greetings!
Welcome to DIDnet: the DRAGnet International Disability Network! We
believe that QUALITY information is the most powerful tool of self-
empowerment for people with disabilities.
First, let's settle one question right away. No one will be turned
away from DIDnet because of an inability to make a membership donation.
But as we've pointed out elsewhere in this packet, running this kind of
quality information service takes lots of people and it does cost money.
So, we operate on the same principle as Public Television or Public
Radio:
**-->> If you use it, you should help support it! <<--**
Yes, there will be those who will use our information and resources
who don't pay. Some of them can't. Others just don't care. But if YOU
use our network and can afford it, then it's time to help out with a
tax-deductible contribution.
There are two forms of membership: the first is strictly for BBS
Sysops who wish to have DIDnet available for their users. The second is
a personal membership so your BBS callers have an opportunity to help
offset network costs if they derive benefit from your participation.
1. BBS Node Membership
At this time, there is only one level of BBS Node memberships with
DIDnet. This is likely to change when we can offer a more comprehensive
set of services to those who can participate at a higher level.
However, in the meantime, this is the basic BBS Node level:
It's free. Zero. Nada. Nothing. You simply fill in the
application (included in this packet as DIDnet.APL) and netmail or
upload a copy to us. We'll assign you a node number and a feed-point.
It's your responsibility to abide by the policy document and assure the
delivery of a quality product to your users. As usual, you'll have to
pay for the long distance (if necessary) or participate in the cost
sharing (if one exists) of the network feed-point you draw from. You
don't get a secret decoder ring, though.
It would be *nice* if you would also submit a personal membership
including the requested donation if you can possibly afford it.
2. Personal Membership
At this time, there is only one level of individual, or personal,
membership with DIDnet. This may change as time passes to encourage
those who can participate at a higher level to do so. However, in the
meantime, this is the basic membership level:
The basic Personal Membership is an annual $10 tax-deductible
donation made directly to DRAGnet. It puts you on the DRAGnet/DIDnet
mailing list so you're kept informed of important events in the
disability community and helps underwrite the costs of gathering and
distributing electronic mail and files. Just fill in the membership
application (included in this packet as DID-MEMB.MSG) and mail it back
to us.
